I took a little ride the other day. Itinerary:
The ride from Guanajuato to Dolores is pleasant, over the Santa Rosa mountains. I had an ice cream because that's what you're supposed to do when in Dolores. Walnut.
Dolores to San Miguel is pretty much straight. I had a coffee in San Miguel and Down Town was full of late-vacation tourists, I presume. There was a wedding going on. It sure is a pretty town.
Left for Guanajuato. Between San Miguel and Guanajuato there is pretty much nothing except for som mountains and a couple of cactuses. 20 or so minutes outside of San Miguel I got a flat tyre. Started riding back real slow, hoping to find a gas station or something. A km or so back, I found one of them side of the road tyre shops. Stopped but there wasn't anyone there to attend. Waited for a couple of minutes and a weatherworn man with a kid in his pick up stopped by. That was the mechanic. Kid must have been the trainee. It took him (us actually) half an hour or so to get the tire off. Took almost the same time to figure out how to lift the bike with a regular hydraulic lift and a few sticks. Found two holes that he fixed. Then put the wheel back on. Errors, reworks and stupid mistakes accounted for, it was probably 40 minutes or so. He charged me 50 pesos for it. I gladly paid a little extra, I was damn happy to have found him and that he was in service. Technical execution glitches aside.
Took a couple of pictures:
