When I came to Guanajuato one of my first acquaintances was Juan. Or "don Juan" as I called him (who nowadays is selling pirated watches off the street down by Alhondiga de Granaditas, but that is another story). Don Juan's brother had a bar where he sold cheap beer and peanuts to drunks and students. One of the regulars was a big guy who, because of his size and appearance, was called Van Damme. He always used a short-sleeved shirt and was equipped with one of the most confident strides that we've ever witnessed. Even though the sleeves were already short, he rolled them up a little more. To show off the guns. VD stands for Van Damme. And the shirt is supposed to be worn like that. It is equipped with the right macho attributes - big front pockets with flaps, slim (but not skinny) cut, the mighty ulbator coat of arms on the left chest pocket. But the confident stride is on you.
